CHARLTON: William R. Dighton, Jr., 78, of Charlton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 2nd, at UMass Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Worcester to the late William R. Dighton, Sr. and Marion (Lucier) Dighton. William is survived by his former spouse Cindy Dighton of Southbridge, MA; three sons: Burleigh Dighton of Madison, AL; Bobby Dighton of Wales, MA; and Darrin Dighton of Cochrane, Alberta Canada. He is also survived by his daughter Cheryl Evans of Dunbar, WV, and cherished grandchildren.
A dedicated union truck driver for much of his life, William was deeply committed to his work and community. He was an active member of St. Joseph’s Church in Charlton, where he served as a Eucharistic minister, embodying his strong faith and devotion. William had a profound passion for collecting and restoring vintage cars, a beloved hobby that brought him much joy. He was known as a kind and gentle man who treasured his friendships and his faith.
William's life was a testament to his kindness, dedication, and love for his family and faith. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 9th, at 9:00 AM at Worcester County Memorial Park Cemetery, located at 217 Richards Ave., Paxton, MA. Following the graveside service, a Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Church, located at 10 H Putnam Rd. Ext., Charlton, MA.
A reception with a light lunch will be held in the church hall after the Mass, where friends can gather.
