Walter Woods

     PALMER/HOLLAND:  Walter E. Woods, 82, of 10 Berkshire St. Palmer, formerly of Holland, died, Sunday, Jan. 31 at home. He leaves his wife Eda J. (Burrows) Woods, three sons; Richard B. Woods and his wife Carol of Port St. Lucie, FL; Robert H. Woods and his wife Debra of Windsor, CT; Roger E. Woods and his wife Rosi of Palmer; six grandchildren, Lynn Hodgson, Robert H. Woods Jr; Amber Woods; Richard B. Woods Jr; Andrew J. Woods; Jessica R. Woods; two great grandaughters, Scarlett and Alea, and many nephews and nieces.

Walter was predeceased by a sister Nancy M. Knight who died in 1996 and a brother George Woods who died in the Korean War.

He was born in Leicester, the son of C. Harry and Ruth (Rice) Woods and lived in Charlton & Holland for many years before moving to Florida and then residing in Palmer for the past thirteen years.

He was the Holland Highway Superintendent and the Holland Fire Chief retiring in 1984 after many years of service. He was also a Holland Cemetery Commissioner, a member of the Planning Board and was elected Selectman.

Walter also ran his own sheet metal and welding shop for many years. He enjoyed woodworking and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity.

He was an Army Veteran and served in Germany during WWII. He was a member of the Holland Congregational Church and served as a senior deacon.

His funeral will be held at 10:00AM Wednesday, Feb. 3^rd in the Holland Congregational Church, Sturbridge Rd. Holland. There are no calling hours.
