Quinebaug, CT - Thomas Andrea Sr., 92, of Quinebaug, passed away on Saturday, October 14, after being stricken ill at home.
Survived by his loving wife Mary (Flood) Andrea, his daughter Donna Roberts of Naples, FL, and his sister Jenny DiPietro of Southbridge. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Stacy Roberts of CO, Nathan Roberts of CA, Benjamin Roberts of FL, and Jesse Roberts of FL; as well as great-grandchildren Aubrey Roberts of FL and River Roberts of CA.
Predeceased by his son Thomas Andrea Jr. in 1990 and sisters Mary Lumi, Angalina Andrea, and Catherine Canney.
Tom was born in Southbridge, the son of George and Anastacia (Mehal) Andrea. He resided in the Southbridge-Quinebaug area for his entire life.
After graduating from high school, he served in the Navy during the Korean War.
Tom dedicated 34 years of service to American Optical in Southbridge where he was recognized for his contributions to designing specialty lenses.
He was a respected life member and former President of St. Michael Romanian Orthodox Church in Southbridge.
He was a member ad Past Master of Quinebaug Lodge of Masons A.F. & A.M. in Southbridge, the Doric Royal Arch Chapter, and the Worcester County Knights Templar.
Tom was also an esteemed member of Melah Shriner in Springfield. He actively served on the Board of Directors and participated in various activities such as team circus and the Veterans Legion of Honor. One of his greatest joys came from providing guided tours at Shriner's Hospital where he delighted children and their families with heartwarming stories about the facility.
Tom found solace in tending to his outdoor responsibilities around his home. His favorite occasions were the holidays, but above all, he cherished spending time with his beloved family.
He was often heard saying, "don't worry, be happy".
A funeral service will take place on Monday, October 23rd, with a procession forming at the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home located at 51 Marcy St. Southbridge. The procession will then proceed to St. Michaels Romain Orthodox Church, 16 Romanian Ave., Southbridge where a service will be held at 11AM. Burial will follow in West Ridge Cemetery.
Calling hours are Sunday, October 22, from 2 to 4PM in the funeral home.
