STURBRIDGE: Robert D. MacDonald, 97, of Gardner Ave. died Monday, February 13,2023, at UMASS-Harrington, Southbridge.

His wife Christine (Williams) MacDonald died November 20, 2018.

He leaves a daughter Nancy MacDonald of Sturbridge, 2 sons Paul MacDonald of Melbourne, FL. David MacDonald of Pembrooke, a granddaughter Heather Long of Wilmington, 2 great grandchildren Madeline and Olivia, 4 nieces and 1 nephew.

He was born in Southbridge the son of Samuel and Eva (Poirier) MacDonald a lived in the area all his life.

He graduated from Cole Trade High School, then served in the US Airforce. After returning home he attended, and took several courses at Clark University, as well as engineering courses at WPI cumulatively earning structural engineering license. He graduated from Worcester Jr. College.

He worked for the American Optical Co. and then was a self-employed structural engineer for many years. 

One of his passions were cataloging and looking up history of song writers.

He and his wife Christine enjoyed wintering in Florida, trips to Block Island, walking and bicycle riding. 

At his request, his funeral was private with Military honors. Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
