Raymond Gene Simpson, 89, of Sturbridge, passed to be with the Lord on October 8, 2026, at home, with his wife and children by his side.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Linda F. (Shaw) Simpson; his son, Dean Simpson and his wife Lori, of Morgantown, PA; his daughter, Pamela E. Anderson and her husband Jeff, of Weare, NH; five cherished grandchildren: Jacob, Benjamin, Noah, Laura, and Lucas; and five great-grandchildren: Elaine, Ivy, Ryleigh, Olive, and Otto. He was predeceased by his great-granddaughter, Mabel Grace (2024), and his nine siblings: Charles, Eugene W., Marvin, Elizabeth, Calvin, Russell, Arnold, Roger, and Gordon.
Raymond also shared the love of extended family as his grandchildren married and the family grew.
Born in Palmer, MA, Ray was the son of Eugene A. and Frances C. (Clarke) Simpson. He spent his entire life in Sturbridge, having been born when his parents lived in the family home, the Rice Homestead, built in 1792, on Main Street in Sturbridge.
Raymond attended Tantasqua Regional High School and Fitchburg State College. Before his retirement in 1998, Ray worked as a Master Printer and Press Dept Supervisor at Davis Press, Inc in Worcester for over 40 years.
As a devoted member of the Sturbridge Federated Church, Ray contributed to the community through his involvement in the annual church auction, the Pumpkin Patch, and the Crossroads Men's Group. He also served on the Board of Trustees at the church for many years.
As an avid golfer, Ray played regularly at the Hemlock Ridge Golf Course. When he wasn’t playing golf, he found joy in creating beautiful flower gardens and growing a large variety of vegetables. In recent years, he enjoyed building and gifting birdhouses.
A celebration of Ray’s life will be held on Friday, October 16, at the Sturbridge Federated Church. Burial will follow at North Cemetery. Calling hours are on Thursday, October 15, from 2 to 4 PM at the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, Southbridge, MA.
