SOUTHBRIDGE – Prince “Pookie” Delano Browne, III, aged 24, was born on June 6, 1986. With his family by his bedside, Prince passed away on Sunday, October 10, at UMASS Medical center as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on May 5, 2008. Pookie is survived by his parents, Pastor Prince D. Browne,II, and Barbara Browne; step-mother, Bindu K. Browne; step-dad, Vincent Turton; five brothers, Ujay Bright, Valentine Browne, Dimitre Browne, Bryant Browne, and Xavier Turton; three sisters, Prudent Browne, Miniya Turton, and Mangie Browne; grandparents, Oretha Shobayo and Mangie Grimes-Browne; many aunts, uncles, cousins, a nephew, friends, and loved ones. He was predeceased by two grandfathers, Hibbard Delano Browne and Randolph C. Browne.
Prince was born in Liberia, Africa, and grew up in Brooklyn, NY. He attended P.S. 92 Elementary School, I.S. Intermediate School, and Prospect High School, all in New York. He graduated from Southbridge High School.
Prince was known for his community organizing and his volunteerism. He was an annual volunteer for Harrington Hospital’s Duck Day. He also volunteered in the public schools and for Southbridge Community Connections events. Wherever Prince was, there were youths – he was their friend and a role model.
He worked for Southbridge Community Connections as a Youth Coordinator and Advocate, and was the youth organizer for Kite Day. He was also employed as an Outreach Coordinator for UMASS medical center working at the Family Center in Webster with families and youth. He had previously worked with the Prospect Park Youth in Brooklyn, NY.
Prince loved camping and did so every summer for ten years at Fairview Lake, NJ, where he was a camp counselor.
Calling hours will be held from 4:00 – 7:00pm, on Saturday, October 23, in the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St., Southbridge. Following visitation, a gathering will be held from 7:00 – 11:00pm, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 446 Hamilton St., Southbridge. A funeral service will take place at 9:30am, Monday, October 25, at the Manor Road Seventh Day Adventist Church, 641 Manor Rd., Staten Island, NY. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, 792 East Edgar Rd., Linden, NJ.
