Paul K. Brown, 87, of Charlton Street, passed away peacefully on March 26 at UMASS Medical Center. Born in Boston, Paul was the oldest child of the late William L. and Alice M. (Kent) Brown. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his younger brother John (Jack) Brown and sister Judith Blake. Throughout his life, he resided both in New England and San Diego County, California and cared for his mother for over 30 years after the passing of his father.

Paul deeply treasured his nephews and niece and their spouses—Scott (Sue) Davey, Paul (Dawn) Davey, Keith (Kate) Brown, Kent (Darcy) Davey, Kelly Brown and Chad Davey. He is also fondly remembered by twelve grand nephews and nieces.

Paul grew up in and around Boston and attended Plymouth State College in New Hampshire. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam era.

He had a distinguished career as a sportswriter for the Worcester Telegram & Gazette before moving to the West Coast where he was a reporter for the Rancho Bernardo News, executive secretary for the Round Table Pizza Owners Association and later, editor of the Julian News. He was both a youth baseball coach and high school and college umpire in the San Diego area having coached several future major league players.

Upon his return to the East Coast, Paul served as the editor of the Webster Times, worked for Catholic Charities and was the manager of the Southbridge VFW.

An avid reader and passionate sports fan, Paul enjoyed traveling with his cousin Lynda to see the Red Sox play at Fenway and at various ballparks around the country.

Paul Brown’s life was marked by his love for family, his dedication to his profession, and his lifelong passion for sports. He will be lovingly missed and remembered by all who knew him.
