Miguel Colon

Southbridge:  Miguel A. Colon,  88, of Franklin Terrace, went to be with The Lord on Friday, May 16, 2014 at home. Born in Utuado, Puerto Rico, Son of the late Saturnino and Carmen (Rivera) Colon. He leaves his wife of nearly 42 years, Rosa (Velez) Colon; his sons: Miguel A. Colon Jr. of Springfield; Gilberto Colon of Carolina, PR; Samuel Colon of Hinesville, GA; David Colon of Carolina, PR; Richard Colon of New Bedford, MA; his daughters:  Migdalia Colon of Queens, NY; Hilda Colon of Carolina, PR; and Mildred Ingles of Southbridge; his sisters: Aurea Colon of San Juan, PR Carmen Padro of San Juan, PR; Aida Colon of Santurce, PR; and Virginia Colon of Vega Baja, PR; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and his first wife, Juana Ruiz of Carolina, PR. He was predeceased by his son, Manuel Colon, brother Manuel Colon and sisters Ana Delia Colon and Oneida Colon.

He was an elder at The Defenders of the Faith Church in Puerto Rico. In 1980, he founded The Iglesia Primitiva El Buen Samaritano, Inc Church in Carolina, PR.  It was through this organization that he reached many lives. He retired to move to Massachusetts and supported establishing worship centers in town. 

 He loved preaching, teaching the word of God and composing Christian hymns. He was an example to all he met, offered his help and guidance to his congregation  and community. He enjoyed baseball. Mostly he enjoyed sharing and caring for  his family.

 

Calling hours will be held from 5:00-8:00 P.M, Monday, May 19, in the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy Street, Southbridge.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 A.M., Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at  the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy Street, Southbridge, MA. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Southbridge.
