HOLLAND: Petty Officer 3rd Class, Michael Martin, 24 of Sturbridge Rd. Holland, died Sunday, November 27.
He leaves his parents Steven and Karen (Perry) Martin of Holland, a sister Petty Officer 2nd Class Abigail Martin of Holland, a brother Joshua Martin of Holland; Michael’s girlfriend Ashley Maureen Sliwa of West Springfield. Paternal grandparents Robert and Janet Martin of Rochdale; uncles Christopher Peck, Michael Perry , Ronald Martin, David Martin and his wife Linda, John Martin and his wife Dawn, Donna Jones and her husband Richard, Paul and Hope Janaitis, Great Uncle Pete Janaitis Great aunts Dorothy Barr and her husband Sumner, Doris Malachowski, Robert and Barbara O’Brian and cousins Joel and Nicole Martin and their children Haley and Christopher, Laura and Jeremy Perry, Megan martin, Keith and Rachel Martin, Jeremy Martin and Amanda Harvey, Cheryl and Brandon Bozyk, Jeffery Martin, Kayla Martin Kyle Martin, and Billy Perry.
Michael graduated from Tantasqua Regional high School in 2007. He worked for Maines Paper before entering the US Navy in 2009 and serving aboard the USS Churchill DDG 81, Norfolk VA.
He was previously a member of both the Tantasqua and Southbridge YMCA competitive swim teams and a member of Holland Boy Scout Troup 8. At the age of 9 Michael pioneered a trick or treat Halloween food drive in support of a local food pantry which continued for many years. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and collecting Terry Labonte NASACR memorabilia. He was an amazing young man, loved by many and will be missed by all.
His funeral will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, Dec. 3rd at the Sturbridge Federated Church, at the corner of Church St and RT 131, Sturbridge. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at Holland Cemetery.
