HOLLAND - Melvin Perry Langley, 87, passed away at St. Vincent Hospital Sunday, Dec.13 after a short illness. His wife of 54 years, Marie E. (Scott) Langley, predeceased him. He is survived by his son, Brent N. Langley, and his wife Cynthia, of Brimfield; two grandsons, Nathan and Zachary; many nieces and nephews. One son, Barry D. Langley, died in 1970. He was also predeceased by three brothers, Clarence Langley, Colby Langley, and Gordon Langley, and three sisters, Verna Dickinson, Maude Langley, and Mildred Dean.
Mr. Langley was born on November 8, 1922, in Perham, Maine, the son of Perry and Effie Mae (Clark) Langley. He proudly served with the Air Force in the Pacific theater of WWII. Mel met his wife, Marie, before the war, and after his return, they married in New Brunswick, Canada on August 10, 1946. During 54 years of marriage, they lived in many different places including Maine, Worcester, and Richmond, VA, spending the last 35 years in Holland.
He was employed by U.S. Envelope Co. for many years, and later as a carpenter with Union Local #108 until retirement. Mel loved to garden and was an amateur radio operator. He was deeply devoted to the love and care of his family.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, Oct. 16, in Holland Cemetery, Brimfield Rd., Holland, MA. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St., Southbridge. An online guestbook is available at www.BelangerFuneralHome.com.
