Maria Simoes

LINCOLN/SOUTHBRIDGE – Maria (Ribeiro) Simoes, 92, formally of Pearl Street, peacefully passed away at St. Antoine Nursing Home on January 7, 2026. She is reunited with her beloved husband, Augusto Simoes, who preceded her in death on November 25, 2007.

Maria is survived by her three sons: Fernando Simoes and his wife Dawn of Lincoln, RI; Armando Simoes and his wife Luzminda of Southbridge; and Paul Simoes of Vermont. She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Sabrina and her husband Eric, Wes and his wife Cori, Daniel, and Arminda, as well as her cherished great-grandchildren, Stella & Scarlett Webb, and Avery Fernando.

She is predeceased by her nine brothers and sisters.

Born to the late Abilio and Maria (Ribeiro) Ferreira in Moita, Portugal, Maria worked as a machinist at American Optical until her retirement. True to her spirited nature, she continued to remain active by becoming a house cleaner, something she did until her 80s.

Maria had a passion for crocheting and gardening. She also loved to dance, as she was always the type to jump on her feet the moment the music started. If there was a festival or party, Maria was there. She loved to travel and visit her birthplace Moita, Portugal, where she was able to visit with many beloved family members. 

Above all, Maria was a devoted family woman, delighting in the company of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will always remember her for her feisty personality.

Funeral services for Maria will take place on January 12th at 11AM, with a Mass at St. Mary’s Church, 247 Hamilton Street, Southbridge, Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 11, from 4 PM to 6 PM at the Belanger Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy Street, Southbridge.
