SOUTHBRIDGE: Jonathan Stephan Krach, born January 5, 1961, formerly of Southbridge and Springfield, Mass, passed away unexpectedly of prior heart-related issues on May 30, 2025. A man who lived with intention, with an infectious smile (often devilish), a sparkle and boundless energy touched many.
Jonathan leaves behind Lisa, his adored wife of 25 years, co-conspirator in his culinary & life adventures. He leaves his children Amanda Mauro, Adriana Stratton and Theresa, Stephan and Nathan Krach. And two cherished grandchildren Evelyn Mauro and Rowan Chase. Brothers Matthew, Greg, and Mitch Krach, his sister Susan Holsten, and many nieces and nephews. Jonathan was predeceased by parents Mitch and Theresa (Tess) Krach of Longmeadow, Massachusetts.
Jonathan was poised, even at the age of nine, dressed in a tuxedo, while he was entrusted with the task of pouring champagne for his parents’ dinner parties. His passion for haute cuisine led his family to open the Hofbrau Haus Restaurant in West Springfield, MA. He ruled as the charismatic Maitre d’ during the fast times of the 80’s and 90’s. Later, birthing Vienna Restaurant & Inn in Southbridge, MA, which was voted the Best European Style Inn in Yankee Magazine, 2013. In 2018 moving permanently to Rangeley, Maine, where Jonathan worked at Forks In The Air. He also served as a local Rangeley caterer and Airbnb host. As a jack of all trades, Jonathan was always Tinkering & would often help friends with landscaping, automotive fixes, and building project management. He made time to appreciate nature & daily sunsets with Lisa.
Jonathan lived life as if he were starring in his own movie, creating joy and being productive every moment of his life. He was a Renaissance Man and life-long learner. He had creative vision & doodled on every napkin he could find. He was a great skier, loved golf tournaments, researching projects, and he always took time for a good massage. He loved classical music, the zither and loud rock, and he was an avid fan of the Formula One circuit and everything Mercedes. He enjoyed the buzz and camaraderie of a lively bar scene, made new friends easily with his shining, happy, personality. He felt dapper in a tuxedo or seersucker suit but could also be spotted in a ripped-up hoodie at the local builders’ supply while working on a project.
His Memorial Service will be held at St. Luke’s Church, 8 Lake Street, Rangeley Maine, at 9:00 AM on Saturday, June 7, 2025, followed by a potluck reception.
Later that evening, friends and family are invited to raise a glass at the Rangeley Inn from 5:30 to 7:30 for a Celebration of Life. Jonathan would love to see you in festive, flashy, ethnic, or funky attire. Please share photos of Jonathan by texting Thomas Watkin at 207-540-5434, or emailing thomas.watkin7@gmail.com.
