Gordon Simpson

September 13, 1939 — November 17, 2021

STURBRIDGE:  Gordon (Gus) Simpson was a caring husband, father, Papa, and friend.  He went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at the age of 82. He leaves his loving wife of 59 years Carol (Shaw) Simpson; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Brenda and Gary Bessette of Brimfield and Katherine and Stephen Gingell of Fiskdale; a brother Raymond Simpson of Sturbridge; and four granddaughters, Sarah Clarke, Amanda Gillmeister, Adeline Saylor, and Lily Gingell.  He was predeceased by seven brothers—Charles, Eugene, Marvin, Russell, Calvin, Arnold, and Roger—and one sister, Elizabeth. Gordon, the son of Eugene and Frances (Clarke) Simpson, was born in Sturbridge and was a life-long resident.  He graduated from Tantasqua Regional High School in 1958, which was the first graduating class of the school.  He excelled in baseball and held the highest batting average for many years.  Gordon worked in the commercial meter department for Massachusetts Electric and retired after 38 years of dedicated service. As a member of the Quaboag Church in Brookfield, MA, he enjoyed attending weekly Bible studies with his wife Carol and was a part of the "Friday Guys" grounds maintenance crew.  He also loved going out to breakfast with the guys on Thursday mornings. Gordon enjoyed taking excellent care of his home and property, especially when that meant using his Kubota tractor.  He loved cars, boating, and vacations at Great East Lake in New Hampshire, but most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Harrington and Dr. John Tumolo as well as The Overlook Hospice nurses for their excellent care of Gordon. There will be a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the Quaboag Church, 175 Fiskdale Road, Brookfield, MA.  There are no calling hours.  A private burial will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the Quaboag Church, 175 Fiskdale Road, Brookfield, MA 01506, or the Springfield Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 9045, Springfield, MA 01102-9045. Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 5 Marcy St. Southbridge, MA is directing arrangement. An online guestbook is available at BelangerFuneralHome.com
