George L. Wood

SOUTHBRIDGE – George L. Wood, 78, passed away peacefully at Harrington Memorial Hospital on September 19, 2026.

George is survived by his beloved wife, Pauline Wood, whom he married on March 15, 1969. He also leaves behind his sons, William Wood and his partner Amy Theriault, and Peter Wood, both of Southbridge, and Paul Wood of Worcester. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Trent and Rowan Smith.

He is also survived by his brother, Michael Wood and his wife, Janelle, of Westfield; his sisters, Paticia Lozier and her husband, Richard of Florida; Barbara Rios and her husband, Jr., of Florida; and Marsha Vasquez of Southbridge. George also leaves behind close family friends Christina Seymour, Stephen Smith, and his wife, Chrissy, as well as several nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by his father, Lawrence Wood and his mother, Rita (Livernois) Wood, as well as his brothers, Kenneth Wood and Richard Wood, and his sister; Carol Geaudreau. 

George was born in Southbridge on September 16, 1948, to his parents, Lawrence Wood and Rita (Livernois) Wood. He was a lifelong resident of Southbridge, where he grew up and attended Southbridge schools. George began his career working as a truck driver, and went on to work in the oil industry, for a number of different locations. He took great pride in his work. 

George served in Korea in the Army in 1968 in the Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged in 1970. 

In his free time, George enjoyed watching movies, especially old westerns starring John Wayne. He also enjoyed hunting and could often be found driving or working on his trucks. These simple pleasures brought him great enjoyment throughout his life. His beautiful grandchildren were the other thing that brought him joy; George loved being a grandfather, and adored spending time with Rowan and Trent. 

George’s family would like to extend their most heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Harrington Memorial Hospital for the compassionate care, kindness, and support they provided to George and his family during his final days. 

They would also like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the VA Home-Based Primary Care in Worcester for their warm care, dedication, and support. The family is especially grateful to Dr. Dosa, and Jason Morin, as well as nurse Denise Shea; occupational therapist Danielle Beland; visiting nurses Melissa, & Erica; and a visiting angel, Mary. Their kindness, professionalism, and care provided comfort and support to both the patient and family during this time, and their efforts will be deeply appreciated and remembered.

Burial for George will be private at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Belanger Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy Street, Southbridge, MA 01550.
