Elizabeth Upton

STURBRIDGE ââ?¬â?? Elizabeth (Bernt) Upton, 96, of Haynes St., died at Life Care Center in Auburn, MA after a brief illness.  Her husband of fifty years, Lee O. Upton, died in 1990.  She leaves one son, Lee Upton and his wife, Stephanie of Carlisle, MA; two daughters, Lisbeth Davis, of Glastonbury, CT, and Amy Grossi and her husband, Anthony of Holland, MA; four grandchildren, Rebecca, Lee and his wife, Julie, Peter, and Lydia.  She was predeceased by three sisters: Mary Thom, Sara Bernt, and Joan Bernt.

She was born in Johnstown, PA, the daughter of the late Frank and Henrietta (Ott) Bernt. She attended the University of Pittsburgh and was a founding member of the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra.  Betty was an active member of the Sturbridge Federated Church, serving on the Diaconate and Music Committee. She was also a member of the Women's Fellowship and Homemakers Club as well as the Sturbridge Garden Club.  She was the organist and choir director at the church for over twenty-five years.  She was a life-long pianist and an accomplished accompanist.

Betty will always be remembered for her sunny disposition and ever-positive outlook on life. She was truly a loving inspiration to her family and friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, October 4 from 2:00 to 5:00 at the Sturbridge Federated Church, 8 Maple Street, Sturbridge. Burial will be private.

A service celebrating Betty's life will be held on Sunday, December 20, at 2:00 at the Sturbridge Federated Church.
