SOUTHBRIDGE: Doreen Elizabeth Harrington, 63 of Southbridge, passed away on June 24, 2023, at UMASS/Memorial Hospital in Worcester.

Doreen leaves behind her mother Phyllis (Sheridan) Harrington of Allston; her daughter Theresa Andre of Southbridge; extended family, Jessie and Christopher Boillard, and their children Damien, Aevelyn, Anthony and William;  her brother Robert Harrington and his wife Eileen of Arlington; her sister-in-law Linda Harrington of Allston; her brother Paul Harrington of Revere; a sister Lynn Bennett of Brighton, her husband Patrick and their children Brendan Bennett and his fiancé Jenn, Sean Bennett, Melissa Bean and her husband Brendan, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Doreen was born in Brighton. She was predeceased by her father Paul A. Harrington and 2 of her brothers, Steven Harrington and David Harrington.

She graduated from Our Lady of Presentation High School. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Glee Club, Drama Club, French Club, Basketball team, Volleyball team, and Yearbook Committee.

She attended classes at Brandeis University for Psychology, Fisher College for Economics and Northeastern University for Education. She went on to attend classes at Quinsigamond Community College where she studied Computer Sciences and was in the sorority PHI Theta Kappa.

Doreen dedicated over 20 years to the United States Post Office. She started out sorting mail, before working her way up to a Postal clerk position. She attended the USPS supervisor academy in 2005, and finished out her career as a customer service and delivery supervisor at the Hopkinton Post Office.

Doreen loved to volunteer. She was a Brownie Leader for the Massachusetts Girl Scout Council in Allston, MA. A Girl Scout Troop Leader for troop #63 for 2 years and helped organize an awards ceremony to present badges and awards for the girls. A hospitality provider for the St. Francis Home in Boston and a visitor at the Odd Fellows Nursing Home where she started volunteering in 1999, she coordinated their crafts, weekly bible readings and song sessions for over 24 years.

Doreen was a parishioner at Sovereign Grace Church. She was a part of their bible study class for over 10 years. She received her certificate in religious education in the Master Teacher Program and Sunday School Program from the Archdiocese of Boston. She was a Sunday School Teacher at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Allston, MA for 10 years and also at Heritage Baptist Church in Worcester, MA for 2 years.

She was a part of the Toastmasters Central MA Club #2277 District 31. In 2012 she was the Winner of the International Speech Contest at the Club Level and Area Level. Doreen served for 2 terms as the Vice President of Education later to go on to becoming the club president in 2014.

Her hobbies were making cards, knitting, crocheting, gardening, baking, kayaking, hiking and spending time with her grandchildren.

Her service will be held Saturday July 8th from 1:00 PM-2:00PM at Sovereign Grace Church 515 Dennison Dr. Southbridge, MA 01550.
