SOUTHBRIDGE; Bruce A. Grant, 65, formerly of 33 Goddard Street and Christopher Heights in Webster, MA died Friday, December 2nd at Vibra Hospital in Leicester after a long illness.Bruce was born in Southbridge, the son of Herbert E. and Edna J. (Baker) Grant and lived in the area all his life. Bruce had many fond memories growing up in Charlton with this family. He graduated from the Mass. Maritime Academy in 1972 where he served as a Merchant Marine Officer hauling fuel throughout the world. He was proud of his service and kept a scrapbook of his worldly adventures. Bruce was a "long time friend of Bill".He leaves behind two nieces, Laurie Burlingame of Charlton and Sandy Martinez of Sturbridge, his sister-in-law Genevieve Grant of Sturbridge along with many friends.He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Douglas Grant, a sister Debra Grant, niece Jennifer Saviengsack,his nephew Patrick Grant and long time companion Evelyn Rupert.Bruce enjoyed watching television, game shows, the History Channel and playing gin rummy. He greeted you with a warm smile and always left you with a Bruce-ism, "Carpe Diem" and "Maintain" were two of his favorites. Bruce will be missed.His funeral will be held at 11:00 am Saturday December 10 in the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy Street, Southbridge MA. Calling hours are 9:00 am to 11:00 am prior to the service.
