SOUTHBRIDGE: Benigna Ospina, 84, of Pine Street, who peacefully departed this life on December 15, 2025, at home after a courageous battle with illness.
Benigna is lovingly remembered by her three sons: Angel M. Zayas of Florida, Angel L. Zayes of Worcester, and Angel A. Zayes. She is also cherished by her four daughters: Carmen I. Zayes of Worcester, Carmen D. Diaz of Southbridge, Luz Rosario of Southbridge, and Maribel Rosa of Southbridge. She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Maritza Vega.
Born in Aibonito, Puerto Rico, Benigna was the daughter of the late Ursolo Rolon and Teodosa Rivera. She made her home in Southbridge for the past eight years, where she became an integral part of the community.
As the eldest of sixteen siblings, Benigna demonstrated immense strength and resilience from a young age. She contributed to her family's well-being by working on a tobacco farm in Puerto Rico and later honed her skills as a talented seamstress, earning the respect of those around her.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Benigna had a passion for cooking, and her home served as a gathering place for family celebrations and get-togethers. She welcomed everyone with open arms and a warm meal, creating lasting memories that her family will cherish forever.
A funeral service in her honor will take place on Friday, December 19, beginning at 9:30AM at Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy Street, Southbridge, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in Notre Dame Church, part of the St. John Paul Parishes, located at 446 Main Street, Southbridge. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Southbridge.
Benigna's spirit and love will be greatly missed, yet her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Visiting hours for those wishing to pay their respects will be held on Thursday, December 18, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home.
